Wiltshire CCC Men defeated by Glamorgan in Showcase T20!
Wiltshire CCC 1st XI v Glamorgan CCC – T20
Friday 15th May 2026 @ Swindon CC 17:00
On a day that threatened rain, but also had patches of glorious sunshine Wiltshire walked into a cricketing storm. In the ‘Showcase’ game last year Wiltshire ran their professional opponents very close, but Glamorgan seemed determined not to let that happen this season. Players and supporters were quite pleased with the way Wiltshire had contained their opponents who nevertheless reached a total of 162 for 8 from their 20 overs. There was even a wicket in the first over when Alex Horton was dismissed, run out, without facing a ball! They attempted a second run, but underestimated Sam Ashman’s excellent throw from the boundary. Smale stood firm to add 25 to the total, but the backbone of the innings was created by the hard-hitting Callum Nicholls 64 (42 balls 6 x 4, 2 x 6) until he became one of Alfie Johnson’s 4 victims ( 4 for 39 ) caught on the boundary by Tom Cheater who held three excellent catches at long-on.
The Wiltshire reply started disastrously with the in-form Tom Cheater having a rare failure as he was caught from the very first ball. Things didn’t get any better as Wiltshire slumped to 15 for 5 with the pace of opening bowler Dan Douthwaite ( 4 for 8 ) causing most of the problems. The lower order managed a few more runs with Stan Brown, 17, being the highest scorer in a low scoring innings. Eventually Wiltshire were dismissed on a disappointing total of 84 from 18.1 overs.
Swindon Cricket Club played host to the men’s and ladies’ games and spectators were well-catered for throughout the afternoon – thank you Swindon CC. Wiltshire’s attention now turns to their final 50 over game in the NCCA Trophy which will be held at Warminster CC on Sunday 17th May. Currently unbeaten with three wins from three games so far, but Wiltshire will not take their opponents lightly as they face Berkshire CCC who are second in the table and earlier in the season defeated Wiltshire in their annual Marlborough Cup game. Put Friday’s game behind you gentlemen and return to the match-winning form you have shown in the Trophy games so far!
