Swindon CC fundraise to support young players travelling on overseas Cricket tour!

In February 2024, Wiltshire Cricket will be touring Sri Lanka with teams from our Girls and Boys pathway. To support this amazing experience for the players involved from their club, Swindon CC have run a number of fundraising initiatives to support their players who are involved in this fantastic opportunity.

Earlier this year, Wiltshire Cricket announced the continutation of its partnership with Lions Sports Travel, having provided overseas tours for pathway teams since 2017. In February 2024, Wiltshire Cricket will be taking two boys teams and a girls team to Sri Lanka for 12 days and as a way of supporting the three boys from their club, Swindon Cricket Club have recently committed a couple of specific initiatives towards those three young cricketers.

Towards the end of the 2023 Swindon CC held a Curry Night following senior matches in order to raise funds to help support cricketers selected for the tour. The evening was well attended, with a range of homemade chicken and veg thali served to our hungry cricketers and members. It is fair to say the smell and taste of the food brought together members from across the club, with the chicken in gravy and vegetable samosas going down particularly well.

On the night £400 was raised. In addition to this the club decided to donate the days match fees to the cause and an anonymous donation was also received. We are delighted to say that, in total, £700 has been donated to support two cricketers from Swindon CC and a deserving cricketer from another local club.

Special thanks must be given to all of those families that provided food for the evening, including the Khan’s, Savelepu’s, Anwar’s, Tiwari’s and Tatwani’s. Thanks also to Sushma Tiwari, who coordinated the evening superbly – hopefully it will return in 2024!

Wiltshire Cricket would like to congratulate Swindon CC and the families involved in running this initiative for their young cricketers.
